“One day , there was a young boy of 7 years old. He used to do hundred of foolish things every day. When his father was hopeless to convince him to stop those things ;he came to his son with a box of small wall pins, pointed to a wall in the boy’s room and told him to put a pin in the wall whenever he does something wrong. The boy loved that wall because it was colored with his favorite color .The boy started to put a pin in the wall whenever he does something wrong until the wall was filled with pins and he couldn’t see the color he likes anymore .He became sad, went to his father and asked for his permission to remove the pins to see the color he likes again. His father told him that every time he stops doing something wrong he can take out a pin from the wall .Day after day, the boy started to stop the bad habits in order to remove to remove the pins and see the color he likes again .After a lot of effort, the boy stopped all bad habits and removed all the pins. He thoug ht that by removing the pins he could see the color again, but….but when he removed the pins, he was shocked to find the wall weak and destroyed. It was never the same again and he realized that he could never bring the old view and he had destroyed it with his own hands.”

My service learning experience was a great one. I got an opportunity to tutor a highschool student from the Sudan called Sam. This program affiliated with the Pan Asian Community Center in Georgia USA. This particular program offers many services including tutoring refugee students from all around the world. I helped Sam with his Social Studies and Language Arts homework. In his social studies homework he had to write out the 28 amendments in the U.S. Constitution and draw a picture for each amendment.
I was really trying to understand why he had to draw a picture for each amendment. But Sam handled it quite well. In his Language Arts homework, Sam had to read an exert from the play Romeo and Juliet and write a paragraph explaining that exert. This proved to be a little difficult for Sam but with my help and reading the exert line by line, Sam was able to complete this assignment as well. Overall, I had a great time in being able to tutor and I plan on continuing unt il the end of the semester.

Reconciliation and Peace in Sierra Leone- Role of iearn-SL:
Actually its been a sigh of relief as our country as finally achieved peace. A good deed by those who were the pioneers in this historic event. Once more i say bravo to the ex- combatants or those who were involved in the fighting.
iearn – SL, by the Director has always played a pivotal role in trying to rehabilitate these youths and to expose their talents for role models. Am a computer instructor at the centre; and some of my contribution has been an immense help to the growth of the centre.
A Good Deed indeed, as the old adage goes, a friend in need is a friend indeed. I would like people to act or copy the examples of this patriotic citizen in enhancing an environment of free learning for high school students in the area of ICT. Alwys put your country first. This is a good deed for all in the country and the future generations, to bring our country from the wounds of war to a better and pe aceful environment.
Mohamed Dabo, Sierra Leone.
Hi all, As a project for my Topics in Middle Childhood Education class, we were required to participate in a community service project. Me and two of my classmates choose to volunteer our time at the North Fulton charities. Our time there was spent organizing clothing donations to be put out in the thrift store portion of the building. I was glad that we could help because the building seemed to be overwhelmed with clothing donations and little volunteer help.
Also, I like the concept of a community thrift store, a place where people can go to buy second hand goods at a discounted price. In a sense, nothing goes to waste here at this charity house. I enjoyed doing the community work and I see the value of a project like this one in the classroom. A teacher can use a class community project such as this one in order to teach his/her students about the value of community involvement.
Thanks, Kateri Shawcross Georgia State University. USA.
