Blood Donation at the HCTMC in Dubai

I came across this community service event while attneding a conference at the MC in Dubai. It was very nice seeing several students and staff sitting their waiting for their turns to donate their blood. Personally speaking, I consider human translantiation and blood donations of the most noble and humane ways of helping others where you don't only give the 'extra' money or some support, but also you 'sacrifice' a part of your very precious health for the safety and sake of someone else. These people deserve all types of respect and appreciation by people and the community.

My students at Al Hoora girls Secondary School have shown some excellent job since we've decided to adopt Good Deeds as our school theme. My team will have their own T-shirts with iEARN Good Deeds’ slogan printed on it.. We've been texting students on their mobiles quotes related to the project..

A presentation will be held next week of how one can change the world with simple good deeds.. Moreover one of my students has prepared a brochure to introduce other students to the project, which led to have more new girls coming over and asking me whether its not too late to join the team, and of course I said “hey its never late to join Good Deeds..”

Today's run was an exciting experience for many people who dedicate their time and efforts to help others. This way, the help was done by raising people's awareness about the risks of women's breast cancer disease. Raising fund and donating money for this yearly initiative is also an important aspect in this competitive race with more than 1500 participants this year in three 1K, 5K, and 10K competitions!! Well done!

Although being the 6th or 7th didn't qualify me for an award, I'm sending few pictures from the race :-(

Hospital 57357 was built by you and a multitude of other friends in Egypt and around the world for you and for them, that is why, from the simple perspective of your ownership of this project, it is only natural that you would be concerned for its on-going success and the accomplishment of its vision, mission and goals.

If you happen to live abroad, maybe one way of actively interacting with us is to talk about the project to five of your closest friends and relatives who would be also interested in supporting us. You must have realized by now that we are badly in need of continuous support and increasing the number of donors if we want to secure an excellent comprehensive care and treatment , free of charge , for a growing number of children with cancer. We have estimated the yearly cost of running operations at the CCHE 57357 to be L.E.150 million. This amount is liable to increase steadily as we expect a steady increase in the number of sick children with cancer from all across Egypt and from the Arab countries.

Since the start of operations in July 7, 2007 at the hospital, and in the course of over one year we have received and treated over 25% of children with cancer in Egypt, totally free of charge. A good number of them have completed their treatment at the hospital and have resumed their normal lives. With the expected running of the hospital at full capacity and the opening of all remaining departments this year, it is estimated that the number of cases received and treated will rise to 50% of the expected total number of children with cancer in Egypt which is estimated at 8500 per year. Also, within our clear mission of serving as a magnet of care and exchanging knowledge with other healthcare institutions within both our immediate external Arab community and internationally, the hospital has received 70 cancer cases from our sister Arab countries namely Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

The administration was keen since the project's inception to always adopt international quality standards in all aspects, such as design, sanitation, infection control, training, organization, treatment protocols. It also firmly believes that all sick children regardless of their background are equal in receiving the best comprehensive quality care offered free of charge by the hospital. Our ultimate objective is to increase cure rates from the present 40-45% in Egypt to 80-85% as in the developed world. This is no more a dream but a hope in a brighter future for our sick children with cancer and their families which they deserve and for which we will always work hand in hand to make a reality.

Friendship with Disabled Students

More information about our elementary students friendship with disabled students from the specialized school # 86.

On May 20, 2008 40 elementary school students went to the trip around the most famous place in Ferghana region, Kokand town, a place of ruling the last Ferghana Region King (XV111-X1X centuries). Before the trip our students together with the disabled students made a research on history of the most famous places in Ferghana Region – the birth place of local ceramics – Rishtan, and traditional silk fabric “ATHLAS” – Margilan, the palace of the last Ferghana Regional King Khudoyar-Khan, etc. Students parents helped to find and organize information for presentations. The best presentation was about Kokand town, that’s why we decided to start our historical trips with Kokand. We visited Khudoyar-Khan Palace, Local Art Museum and have learned a lot about traditions and culture of our motherland. Especially important was that our friends from the specialized school # 86 were with us. Because themselves they couldn’t visit such interesting historical places

On April 26 students of school 40 “Parvoz” visited Regional Ferghana Orphanage where they presented information about GYSD and about iEARN projects they can participate together. For younger students GYSD qiuz was prepared, winners got sweet prizes. Altogether children cleaned the yard of the Orphanage and watered trees and flowers. After the visit “Parvoz” school children conducted a discussion with older students at their school about volunteers’ work for their local community.

Great Deeds from Uzbekistan

On April 25, 2008 a group of students at the age of 9-10 years old with their parents and a teacher of English Nargiza Khasanova from school # 40 “Parvoz” from Ferghana city, Uzbekistan, visited a specialized school # 86 for physically disabled students to conduct a presentation and planting GYSD action.

Group of students presented information about history of GYSD and about volunteers. Then students and their parents planted trees together with disabled children, they taught students from specialized school how to plant trees and take care of them. At the end of the action students were divided into 5 teams and draw pictures on the topic “Save Your Earth”. All participants got sweet prizes. It was the first time when disabled students from school # 86 learned about GYSD and took part in planting trees as volunteers.

On April 23, 2008 in school 40 ‘Parvoz’ and local community “Shodiana” a GYSD day was conducted for 60 elementary school students of “Parvoz” school and 10 yanger children from makhallya ‘Shadiana” by a teacher of elementary school Larissa Abdurakhmanova.

In the morning a GYSD-lesson was suggested to the actions participants. They defined and discussed pluses and minuses of modern progress, Ferghana regional ecological problems and were thinking of what we should do to protect our nature and help our regional ecology. For the lesson the students prepared their pictures where they expressed their opinion on the future of their motherland. After the lesson all the participants together planted flowers (daisies) in the yard of the school and in the streets of local Makhallya “Shadiyana”. Finally. The students draw pictures on the ground of their school about the future of of Nature in our city, our country and our world. The most important thing they have realized was WE CAN HELP OUR NATURE ALL TOGETHER!!!

On April 20, 2008 30 students from 9 Uzbek forms of school 40 “Parvoz” conducted a GYSD action. They cleaned the territory of summer camp “Yoshlarobod” in Vodil village of Ferghana region. Before their action five 9-graders found information about GYSD and made a presentation about this day and gave examples of GYSD actions in previous years in Uzbekistan. The teacher-coordinator was a teacher of Russian for Uzbek forms Navbahor Jumayeva. In the camp the first group of students were cleaning the yard and planted flowers, the second group of students were washing the rooms (doors, windows, floors). During the dinner break the GYSD-quiz was suggested to the act ion participants. At the end of the day the Summer Camp administration gave a thankful speech and invited the students to take part in the opening ceremony of the Summer Camp 2008 season in May.

On April 17, 2008 a group of 9-graders of Parvoz school and their coordinator Marguba Matkarimova conducted a GYSD and iEARN projects presentation and workshop for 30 older students from their school and 8 students from other schools . The participants have learnt about GYSD, volunteers’ movement in different countries. Students got aquainted with iEARN and one of its project “Good deeds”, read messages on the project forum. Also group of 9-graders presented their experience of helping old people from their community (makhallya “Shodiana”).
Working in 5 groups, students developed their own plan of helping and supporting old people of their makhallya. And during the April 22-26 week they made a list of lonely old people who need help and support. Students-volunteers visited old people at homes, cleaned their yards, rooms, helped with shopping in the market, cooked food. It was a real help to real people.

Not only do you gain a sense of accomplishment, but you get to learn about various physical and mental disabilities. As teachers, it is important to learn about various disabilities because they will be in the general classroom.

Since gas prices are going up and people are finding drugs in the water system many Americans are trying to find a way to help the earth without changing to much. There are list of things on the internate and the news such as: going the speed limit while driving, not flushing every time people go #1 in the bathroom, be careful about how people dispose of waste, and of course recycling. The U.S. seems to make this a mission, but i know other people around the world are too. so i was wondering what people from different countries are doing? anything different?

I think teaching good deeds to young children is a great idea. I myself want to teach my students when I have a classroom of my own about good deeds and things we can do to change the world or even our community. I think teaching kids while they are young about good deeds is a great idea and then they can use the skills they learened as they get older and maybe make a big difference for their community or the world one day! :sillygrin:

GCE Students Promote Community Service As Part of Islam

Six GCE students at the Al Ma’arifa Secondary Girls School have put together a brochure promoting community service and emphasizing its important place in Islam as part of the Good Deeds project.

The Good Deeds project encourages students to make the world a little bit better through small acts of kindness. They then share the stories of their good works in the iEARN online forums and learn from reading about the good deeds of their peers from around the world. The project aims to create proactive citizens who are able to serve their community, country, and the world in a positive and dynamic way.

The brochure devotes a panel to the emphasis given to community service in Islam, from the many Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad to the rewards promised to those who do good deeds. As the students point out, the rewards to be expected are spiritual in nature.

The brochure also suggests some ways that people can serve their community and points out the advantages of community service to society as a whole as well as the individual involved.

Indonesia: Small Steps to Do a Great Good Deed

Hi, every body! My name is Ayun, one of the students of Senior High School 1 Bogor, Indonesia. When my teacher informed my class about this project, I was so enthusiastic to join it. It is a great pleasure to me to share my experience and to know more about other people experiences in the world about it. Everyone has a good side, so it's very usual if all people in the world do good deeds, even just small things. For example, when I see trash on the class floor, I throw it to the bin.

May be that deed is just a simple thing but if we don't do it, there will be a great danger waiting for us like flood (it happens now in many island in Indonesia). So let's do many good deeds. Just remember, a person can make a difference! That's all, I hope this can inspire others, especially my fellow students in Indonesia!

My name is Bella. I live in Bogor and the student of 12th grade Senior High School 1 Bogor. I would share a good deed that I had experienced, so simple but it built a deep impression to me.

About 3 months ago, my little brother was seriously ill. Something wrong happened in his stomach. The doctor decided to do a surgery to him and it's done successfully. My mother and my elder brother accompanied him in the hospital every day, but I had to go to school by myself.
For the first time in my life, I went to school by train. So I had to wake up earlier (at 05.00 AM) in order to catch the first train. Sometimes I had to stand up because there's no empty seat to sit. My friends asked me,"Don't you get tired because of it?". Undoubtedly I said,"No, I enjoy it, eventhough I had to to school earlier and went home late, I just enjoy it!". Well, I did it because I love my brother. I'll do everything for him.

After one month, everything has been back to be normal again. Suddenly my brother gave me a gift that he bought . He said he gave it as a big thank for me. I'm so happy because he has been recovered.

My name is Indhie Hanifah and I live in Serpong, but I study in Senior High School 1 Bogor. One day, I wanted to go to Bogor by bus. I was sitting in the bus when the old lady got into the bus and stood beside me. She looked tired, so I gave my seat to her. I knew I would be tired but I was happy because I have done something good.

A few weeks later, when I went to Bogor from Serpong by bus again, I had no seat, and I had to stand up in the crowded bus until the bus arrived in Bogor, it was a long and bad journey. I started to get sick. Suddenly, there was a man who gave me his seat because I might look pale. I will never forget his favor, and I had an impression that if we help other, some day we'll need other people's help, it'll come. Trust me.

28.12.2007г, накануне Новогоднего праздника было проведено мероприятие с группой учащихся и родителей в рамках проекта iEARN «Хорошие поступки» , который проводился в Ферганском областном Доме Престарелых. Мероприятие было очень актуальным, так как в Узбекистане 2007 год был объявлен Годом Социальной Защиты. Ученики ш& #1082;олы заранее провели благотворительный марафон по сбору теплых вещей и предметов первой необходимости. Учениками гимназии и их родителями было испечено более 200 сk 6;обных булочек в день поездки в Дом Престарелых. Учащиеся выступили с концертными номерами. Также выступили участники танцевальной студии « Маленькая страна » В конц ;е мероприятия ученики гимназии вместе с родителями ознакомились с условиями проживания престарелых людей и вручили им тёплые вещи и сладкие подарки тем самым вы 88;азили свою поддержку и участие в их жизни. В своих отзывах об акции ученики школы почти все отметили, что им было приятно помочь людям ,нуждающихся во внимании и забот&# 1077; и доставить радость подарками и концертом. После того как ученики вернулись из Дома Престарелых, они написали о своих впечатлениях и поделились друг с другом о том, & #1095;то нельзя так поступать с пожилыми людьми, и сделали выводы о том ,что нужно относиться с уважением к старшим по возрасту и заботиться о них.

Character Counts in Canada

Janeville Elementary School has undertaken a character education project that focuses on the six Pillars of Character of the Character Counts initiative of the Josephson Institute of Ethics in California . Each month one pillar is the focus of an introductory school-wide assembly, discussed in individual classrooms and is highlighted in morning announcements.

Each student is then tasked to find a specific example during the month when they displayed the featured characteristic and to write about it. This example is signed by both the student and a parent and brought to school. Students who return the signed examples are rewarded with a bracelet inscribed with the featured pillar to be worn as a reminder of the importance of having good character. We want to share our stories because we know that if we all displayed the pillars of good character we would be able to “Change the World”.

In the month of November we learned about being trustworthy. This means that we are honest, we tell the truth, we keep promises and secrets and we are loyal so people can trust us. Trustworthy people don’t lie, steal or cheat. They have the courage to do the right thing and to stand up for what they believe even when it is hard to do.

Новые учителя из школы 40 "Парвоз присоединились к проекту "Хорошие поступки" после обучения в семинаре "Академии Учителей",который прошел в конце октября в городе Ферг ана, Узбекистан.
Учителя стали использовать проекты iEARN на уроках.
Урок по чтению (творчество детского писателя К.И. Чуковского, «Айболит»). с 30 учениками первого класса (возраст- 6-7 лет) был проведен 16 ноября 2007 года в школе 40 «Парвоз» г. Фергана, Уk 9;бекистан. Урок провела учитель начальных классов Ядринцева Ольга. Были приглашены родители учащихся и преподаватели русского языка и чтения. Также была подготовl 3;ена выставка рисунков детей, учащиеся с гордостью показывали свои рисунки о добрых делах, которые нарисовали после совершенного ими поступка, а также рассказывал&# 1080; какой конкретно поступок совершили.

one of my colleague Nargiza Khasanova, a teacher of English in school 40 "Parvoz" (that means "flight") has joined to the project together with her elementary school children (2-4 graders) and their parents. They prepared an activity "Animals of Africa and Uzbekistan" for orphans in Ferghana regional orphanage. Students prepared oral presentations with posters and their parents conducted a funny quiz about animals. Also the students demonstrated a concert show and took part in the drawing competition together with children from the orphanage.

Наргиза Хасанова, учитель английского языка школы 40 «Парвоз» города Ф 077;ргана, Узбекистан, участница академии iEARN, 28.11.07 провела мероприятие с группой учащихся и родителей в рамках проекта «Хорошие поступки» на тему «Животный мир Африки и Узk 3;екистана»,который проводился в областном Доме ребёнка. Основная цель мероприятия наглядно показать учащимся ,что в мире есть место добрым и хорошим поступкам , и 83;юди , которые нуждаются в их внимании и добром ,человеческом слове и заботе. Ученики школы (2-4 классы) сами подготовили презентации о животных, оформили красивые постер ;ы и картинки. В ходе мероприятия учащиеся гимназии и воспитанники детского дома всецело окунулись процесс , и здесь уже не было видно кто есть кто .За время проведенl 0;я мероприятия дети не только познакомились , но и подружились: вместе рисовали , рассказывали друг о друге, задавали вопросы. Огромную поддержку оказали родители уче ;ников. Которые подготовили транспорт для участников акции, помогали в сборе подарков для малышей из Дома Ребенка. Родители учеников школы 40 «Парвоз» подготовили и прl 6;вели интересную викторину о животных Африки и Узбекистана, в которой с удовольствием приняли участие малыши Детского дома.

В конце мероприятия учащиеся гимназии выступили с концертными номерами перед воспитанниками и коллективом Детского дома и вручили малышам разные подарки: игруm 6;ки, сладости и самое главное, свое участие и поддержку.

Ученикам школы было очень приятно пообщаться с детьми, помочь им . После посещения Дома Ребенка родители и ученики запланировали проведение акции в Доме престарелы ;х для пожилых людей, которым очень нужны забота и внимание в декабре 2007 года.
